Auditions
Stage Left Theatre Company will be holding auditions next week for its fall production of “Wit,” by Margaret Edson. This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama will be in performance at the Salida Steamplant Theatre the 2nd and 3rd weekends in October.
The play was first performed in 1999 and was later adapted into an HBO film starring Emma Thompson. The story follows Dr. Vivian Bearing, a renowned scholar of the poetry of John Donne, through her battle with ovarian cancer. Over the course of her illness, and her stint as a patient in an experimental chemotherapy program at a major teaching hospital, she comes to reassess her work and her life with a profundity and humor that is transformative.
Other major characters include Dr. Kelekian, who oversees the research program at the hospital; Jason Posner, a younger research doctor finishing his residency; Susie, Vivian's prmary nurse; and Evelyn, Vivian's mentor. There are also a number of very small or non-speaking roles for various medical technicians and students.
Auditions will be held in the community room of Bongo Billy's Salida Cafe from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Sunday, August 24th, and from 6:30 to 8:30pm on Monday, August 25th. Rehearsals will begin the following week. No preparation is necessary but please bring calendars with any potential rehearsal conflicts. For more information, please call Greg at 539-8539.
